We went today to Callhoun at Wymn Drive ,Huntsville to look for help to fill a form about financial aid for my son and Christy in the Financial Aid area was very helpful and friendly with us.
This review is specific to BUILDING 9 - TESTING VENTER & ADULT EDUCATION, office # 109. This is where I went yesterday to take my exam for selling Life & Health Insurance. The testing center was quiet and spread out enough that I didn't notice anyone else was in the room while I was testing. They provided a noise-canceling headset which also helped. The computer monitors where adjustable, as were the chairs. They provide lockers for you to keep your personal items safely locked away during your testing time. The waiting area and the bathroom facilities were clean and comfortable. Parking is right in front of the building. Directions to find the testing center were concise. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this testing center. I have tested as PSI in Nashville in the past, and it wasn't nearly as nice, clean, or professional and friendly.
I was a student there in 1972-73. I was in Chorale. I did work study and worked under VP for the GI bill. Howard Steele was professor in biology/anatomy. All around the best college l have ever attended!
After experiencing Dr. Wilson and Ms. Crayton's clown show that they call surgical technology, I can no longer recommend this institution. I had very good grades but I will not take part in a program that throws rules, guidelines, and education out the window for the sake of teachers' egos. I've got a degree previously from Calhoun, and a degree from Auburn University as well. It's a shame that this institution has gone down hill this badly. It may just be the Surgical Technology department, but I will never come back to this school. I couldn't believe the misinformation being taught to be honest. I had to hold my tongue constantly to avoid stepping on the teacher's ego when I knew she was teaching information that was wrong. Both teachers were both actively trying to get the other fired at the time that I left as well which further echoes the unprofessionalism that takes place in this program. Ms. Crayton asked us multiple times to go to the Dean about Dr. Wilson's total lack of effort. She bad-mouthed him constantly in our classes (which he deserves, but is still very unprofessional). Avoid this program at all costs. It's 100% not worth it.
Very nice college in Tanner (near Huntsville,AL) with all manner of educational opportunities.
After reading some of these reviews I was afraid to just wait on transcripts. So we drove 3 1/2 hrs to verify that my son's transcripts were received. Ms. Tammy was very helpful. She helped us with FERPA, drivers license on file, and finding all 3 different transcripts associated with his account. She did everything that she possibly could to make our visit a successful one. The key - take the initiative. Be the initiative and Be kind and grateful for the help you get. We left admissions and went to speak with an advisor. Mrs. Jennifer was amazing. She walked us through the necessary steps to apply for the program that my son was looking at. He felt comfortable and at ease. For our first time at the college ever - it was a good experience.
Don't go to this campus, go to Huntsville. It's a night and day difference. Went to my first week of classes Fall 2021 & was removed from roll after the add drop date. I had already accepted financial aid yet was removed because they told me I did not send my high school transcript when I did. I told them to check again because I had to pay TWICE for my high school and my previous college transcripts to be sent over.. I heard them talk amongst themselves in the back. She found my email & began to process it. The other woman came back out and said it'll take 2 to 3 business days for my transcript to process. Of course they tell me this on the add / drop date, meaning I have no time to wait for them to correct their mistake. They said there was nothing they could do & I would just have to attend next semester... UNACCEPTABLE! I had to attend school this semester or pay back thousands of dollars in financial aid & VA money. I left in tears and drove to the other campus & explained my situation. The advisors and business office people at Huntsville were SO much more understanding and kind to me. They also believed that they needed to fix this mistake on behalf of Calhoun Community College so it was nice to see the pride in the workplace these people took. They placed me into the classes I was trying to attend in Decatur with no problem. I will never go back!! P.S. what kind of school doesn't have any kind of food service when there literally no where to eat for miles... at least put out a microwave so we can bring stuff from home. Sheesh.
The instructors are awful don't want to do their jobs at all and don't care about the students at all. I had to pay $260 for one code just to do my assignments and the code apparently doesn't even work and because of that it's my fault for missing assignment even tho I can't even access them.
Fantastic growing school with a nationally recognized nursing program! The professors are wonderful and want their students to succeed. The campus is gorgeous and has a touch of that old Alabama feel to it. They offer a lot of activities and keep students involved to gain the most out of their college experience. The best thing about about this community college is exactly that- helping locals in the community!
My experience with this school has been horrible. Numerous problems such as having to provide documents multiple times to admissions, business department not responding or returning phone calls and taking multiple weeks to refund tuition, financial aid has been the worst department of all as far as communication and getting things done in a timely manner. There is only one department that has been helpful and that has been advising. After this semester is over I will not be returning to this institution.
