As a former Alumni and returning student not sure what has happened to school since around 2016/17 has gone downhill. Polk State College’s mission emphasizes student success, service, and excellence, yet my personal experience has not reflected those values. There is no urgency in resolving student concerns, and instead of clear guidance, I am referred from one person to another with no resolution. Lack of accountability and responsiveness undermines the College’s stated mission of promoting student achievement and providing high-quality service. To better align with its mission, I believe Polk State should focus on consistent communication, timely responses, and a stronger sense of accountability to ensure students feel supported and set up for success.
I approve the following message: As an Alumni former student that attended this institution as a Criminal Justice student I can say my program director and my instructors were all professional. Dr. Falconetti, Our Chair, and board of directors of this school all put the students first and during COVID-19 helped me through my financial needs by granting me relief funds that I did not have to pay back and supplied me with $2,000 that helped me pay my bills and needs for school. Hard work pays off if you put in the amount of time and dedication towards your learning I was awarded 3 scholarships which also assisted in covering books and classes I am only left having to payback $1800 which isn't bad and look at the outcome I got my degree. Sheriff Judd should put more recognition for our Program Director and the professors that instruct in the CJ program I had a great experience with each of you all though I decided to pursue Cybersecurity it was fun being able to learn more on my Law and the Criminal Justice System. This school has earned this review and I will also keep a good word of mouth out for this school and their professionalism to assist students as a disabled student I was able to be successful on campus.
The financial aid office ruins the entire experience. They will add holds onto your account and not explain why. They are by far the least helpful part of the school, and they do not care. The frustration with the office truly turns me away from this school. Trying to access your grant or even talk to anybody is like pulling teeth. The staff in that office needs to go through some serious training. I have had to be up there almost every week just to find answers to things that they cause. Truly hope they can fix their financial team because it will cause people to give up on this school. I truly believe they are just money hungry and do not care about their students.
I don’t understand why there are multiple campuses when there’s still a limited option of classes to take. This school is supposed to be “flexible” and offer a range of online classes. Yet for instance when trying to take a basic science class, there’s only about three-four teachers who teaches the subject, and only about three maybe four fully online options with a maximum capacity of 25 students. Classes were already filled up and I have early registration access. So imagine that. I was lucky to enroll. On top of that, I was told to email teachers to enroll me in case a spot opened in their class, yet the teachers never responded or acknowledged my emails. Rather than building another campus, more teachers need to be hired and there need to be more options for online classes. People have children, work, other responsibilities, or simply have no way to get to campus and PSC is still advertising to be “flexible” yet lack a range of online classes. Yes this is a community college but this is ridiculous. I have only a few classes left to finish my degree, but the lack of online classes are holding me back.
I wish I read the reviews of this place first. I’m starting to wonder if it’s even a real place. I applied months ago. Immediately got accepted but can’t reach anyone about classes? Submitted my fasfa under them, sent transcripts… but I can’t get an email back, call back, no one answers the phone. The secretary said it can take 8 weeks for them to even review transcripts. Someone has this school open for profit and looks only because it’s not to get people in classes I’ll tell you that. Waste of time and money.
Advising and enrolling never pick up their phones, when you call other extensions and they transfer you no one picks up. Emails are not answered. You make the trip to the school and end up waiting forever while the advisors (go get coffee, leave their rooms and phones to catch up with other staff at the front desk?) and when you finally get them they fly through everything to get the interaction over with. While mind you, the interaction is about how to go about your future education . This school should really look at who they are hiring and if that's the image they want to put out.
If you are a veteran please do not waste your GI Bill on this school. I have lost a third of my GI Bill due to my major losing federal funding. On top of that I am having to fight for federal aid as I have exceeded the time to get my degree due to the fact that I have exceeded the time limit to get my pilot science degree. Though it was the schools fault for messing up and losing funding veteran students are the ones paying the price. Avoid this place like the plague. They do not care about veterans at all and just see you as a dollar sign.
Horrible excuse of a school! They DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR SUCESS HERE. Nothing but children in admissions With NO INFORMATION Ever. They will make you cry with all the hoops you jump through just to start your education here. BY FAR A SMOOTH PROCESS. It is laughable to even call this a college. For 10+ years, i have BEEN STUCK with this poor excuse of a school. Lazy instructors and NO ONE WANTS TO TALK TO YOU HERE. NO ONE WORKS HERE!!! I have always struggled to get help THEY DONT EVEN ANSWER PHONE CALLS. EVER! Those of you who have no choice but your community college, GoodLuck! I really do wish everyone success with their educational goals.
It's terrible the instructions are not clear they ask you for documents you bring them then they don't need it...they kept losing my transcripts I signed up for college with other schools and It's never been this chaotic and difficult p.s. very few will return your call so if you want communication unfortunately you need to go down there or email
Internet went out while waiting for assistance so no assistance and it was first thing in morning. Roads are blocked out front due to construction. Don't even think of calling
