I had a deeply unsatisfactory experience with Ocean County Community College. I was charged for a course I never attended, and despite reaching out multiple times, I received no help or resolution. In May, I was contacted two days after the course began and informed the representative that I would not be participating because the class did not meet the qualifications I needed for my education. I was locked out of my OCC account and couldn’t disenroll myself, but the woman I spoke with assured me she would process it on her end. I confirmed this with her and trusted the matter was handled. Months later, I was shocked to see a charge for that same course. I called the admissions office on January 11th and explained the situation, including that I was unable to access my account or view any billing info. I also mentioned that I was misinformed about the course transferring to my current school — it turned out to be pass/fail and therefore not valid for graduate programs. I emailed OCC with a detailed explanation and request for help — and got no response. I called multiple times trying to get assistance logging into my account or disputing the charge and got nowhere. I was completely ignored when I needed support the most. I would not recommend this institution based on how poorly they treat students who run into problems. No one should have to deal with this kind of negligence or lack of accountability.
Such a fantastic school so close and affiliated with so many wonderful four-year programs. I was able to transfer to Ramapo and eventually get my masters degree from Fordham and a supervisor certificate from Kean University. I also studied some sign language here and other classes. I'll always remember my art classes though because I met friends I'll have forever.
OCC is a very beautiful school with a lot of nature surrounding it which is nice. My only complaint is that a friend of mine graduated from here and her parents missed seeing her walk across the stage for the graduation due to how far the parking lot was from the actual spot was commencement was her mom struggled getting up the hill supposedly because all the other parking lots were full that were closer and there weren’t any carts escorting people anymore either.
Are ya’ll short staffed? I keep calling and no one answers. Almost day after day. Did you need help in the admissions office? I just wanted to confirm that I only need two more courses to graduate. I loved this school, but lately no one picks up the phone. I think I’m about to move back to New Jersey to work in the administration’s office LOL.
Great speaker and engaging. Q&A segment was top notch. Honest and thoughtful answers.
Went to the Planetarium for the light show, it's very entertaining. College campus is very nice.
Great places for students to study and good places to visit in a beautiful environment and a clean school.
I have been coming to occ for three years now and there have been amazing steps taken in the right direction. Only problem I have is with the bookstore, it is great that the lines aren’t long anymore however they run out gen ed books for weeks, some staff is rude, some are helpful. Specifically, they ran out of college algebra books by the first day of class starting, very irritating because by the time I got the book I was behind in my class by an entire week. Aren’t there registration lists that says how many students are expected to take the class? I feel as though it was a situation that could have been easily avoided. Not to mention outrageous prices.
Unbelievable. The people that work in the registration office are truly miserable. Condescending, sarcastic, and rude. Lady at the front desk (Claudette, Claudine?) has a major attitude and her nails are too long to type with. Went in twice last week to complete a chargeback packet and was appalled at the way students were spoken to. While I was being helped, I could hear another woman from a nearby cubicle speaking to what sounded like a potential student over the phone in a really patronizing tone (something like, “I told you this already, you need to register for CHEM ONE OH ONE.” Punctuating the last few words loudly and firmly.). I understand working at a community college must be frustrating at times, but there is no need to take out that frustration on the people that are PAYING MONEY to attend their school. Thank god I’m a Brookdale student, because I would never give my money to that place if that’s the way they treat people. No one forced these women to take jobs there, so if they don’t like what they do, they should pursue different professions. My sister went there for one semester and actually warned me about the registration office before I went, but I didn’t believe her til I actually got there and experienced it for myself. I can’t speak for the school itself since I’m not a student, but I will say that they should hire more professional individuals because first impressions are everything. Based on what I’ve seen and experienced, I would rather pay out of county tuition than to set foot in this school ever again.
Paid for 2 classes, was given 2 ID numbers to log in online with, neither of the numbers work. I call IT, guy can’t get his phone to work and hangs up on me, calls me 4 more times and he can’t hear anything I say. I email 2 different help service emails, no one will be able to reply until next week. Absolutely terrible experience and it’s only just begun so I fear what my future may hold at this sad establishment. Save yourself some time and money and skip OCC. Update: Was told I had to email a different department because for some reason they can’t simply look up where the class is taking place, emailed twice as well as called and no response whatsoever. Truly unprofessional on every level.
