I attended The Ohio State University after transferring from Columbus State Community College in AU of 2006. I had to withdrawal my Senior year in 2008. I moved on. Because we were all working at home during Covid it was argued that it was the right time to return to complete the degree and I did so in AU of 2020. That could not have been more wrong. First, my advisor at that time, David Martinez; overstepped his role. He demanded that I transfer into a program that I didn’t want to be in. When I tried to explain why, he cut me off multiple times during our conversation stating that it was the quickest path to graduation due to the quarter to semester transition and because of the way credits were allocated. There was no room for negotiation. Second, Distance Learning is not a great idea. To boot, my books arrived 2 weeks into the semester (I was living out of state). So again, I was forced to withdraw because so many of the assignments were due during that time and I did not have the materials needed to complete the assignments. The OSU bookstore had promised delivery by the first week of the semester when they were ordered. OSU refused to allow me to petition to have the fees associated with that withdrawal dropped, although it was approx 2 days after the deadline and I qualified for the exemption fully. In fact, they had advertised on their website that they were waiving fees for that very reason. They sent my account to collections at the Ohio Attorney General’s office. This violates the Department of Educations Title 20 protections. Furthermore, I had made my OSU email account the backup email for my former personal Gmail account and phone number. When I lost access to those, I requested that OSU reverse their decision and allow me to access my OSU email account in order to regain access to my other accounts. They refused. My interactions with OSU have been atrocious. They deny wrongdoing, despite all evidence proving that they are at fault. Legally and morally they are in the wrong. They are actively preventing me from seeking an education. Which, is a violation of my Civil Rights. Given that this is a public university and not a private one, they have a responsibility to follow Federal guidelines. They refuse.
