Portland Community College Rock Creek

Great place to get the first 2 years worth of credits for a bachelors degree, especially if you plan to transfer to a 4 year public university in Oregon, since most if not all of the credits will transfer. The majority of the professors I've had at PCC were interested in my success and did a great job with teaching their applicable subjects, and there are a few to this day that I still keep in touch with. I also majored in one of the natural sciences at the 4 year institution I ended up transferring to, and I feel like my education at PCC gave me an excellent foundation for the upper division courses I needed to take for my degree. As far as the actual Rock Creek Campus goes, which is where I took the majority of my in-person classes, it is located in a nice secluded area with little urbanization, and the grounds are pretty well kept with numerous trees, shrubs, and flowers that bloom both in spring and summer. Overall, I really enjoyed my time at PCC, and if you are looking to complete most of your lower division classes here as a STEM major prior to transferring to a 4 year university, I highly recommend coming here.

Very nice campus. Pretty large and well maintained, with a few open areas. The buildings are well maintained too. They always seem very clean, and look good. I've only taken a few classes, so I can't speak for the overall quality of the education yet. However, I can say that in the few classes I've taken, the teachers have always been helpful when I've needed help, but usually teach well enough that I don't need to ask for it. The only complaint that I would have is that some of the computers, specifically in the math classes, just don't work well enough. I made the mistake of Microsoft Edge in addition to 3 chrome tabs, and the computer completely crashed. However, in the classes that really require it, such as computer science, the computers work fine. Overall, this college has a great campus and great teaching, and a good cost, so I would recommend it.

Multiple hit and run collisions to my vehicle while attending class while parked in the PCC Rock Creek parking lot over a 9 month period. Unable to take recourse because there are no cameras in the parking lots. Security officers are only good for handing out forms to file a campus report. Given the growing crime in the area, they could do a much better job of stepping up security and protecting their students.

I went at 130 on a Tuesday to register and ask severalquestions because no one answered the phone. they are completely closed. Not one person to answer any questions or help. Office hours on website says Mon-Fri: 7am-9pm, Sat: 8am-4pm Lunch noon -1pm. I guess I can't go back to school. 😔 …

Terrible staff, not helpful and no one is on the same page!!! I’ve had 3 advisors and none of them have been any kind of help! One advisor went on leave and I had been trying to contact her for 3 months before FINALLY getting emailed that she’s on leave, the second one REFUSED to help me just because I wasn’t apart of any of their medical programs (i’m getting prerequisites done to transfer and hopefully get excepted into OHSU to go into their DMD program) despite planning on going into medical, even when she got contacted by the advisor’s administration to help me she still refused and the third advisor never has any appointments. I have had such a horrible experience here, I actively warn other’s and tell them to go somewhere else. If you have the option go to another school, it’ll save you the headaches.

Majority of their non credit classes are in the middle of week day and in east Portland. I have never been able to attend any because of this. If they want more people to attend then they should have more wkend or evening classes and not just in east Portland.

I graduated from pcc rock twice and loved every day of it, started at 29 years old, moved on to Pacific for a BA IN 1988, pcc teachers were superior

Im currently enrolled at my last term at PCC! I transfer to WSU in the Fall which feels unreal to me. A little about me in case you’re unsure if PCC is right for you: Before coming to PCC, I was kicked out of high school at 17 and a straight D/F student my entire life. I got my GED and didn’t end up giving college a shot until I was in my 20’s. I never enjoyed school - I never had the support I needed as a student with a less than traditional background. I was scared to be back in a classroom with people who were younger than me - scared about what they would think. To my surprise, PCC was filled with a variety of students. I never felt out of place or like I didn’t belong there. Lots of my classmates worked, had kids, and many were even established professionals just getting additional credentials. I felt very comfortable with the diverse set of students throughout my entire 2 years. I was enrolled in-person @ rock creek and online as well - so I can’t speak for other locations, but all of my professors were phenomenal. Many offered to write me letters of recommendation for college applications, free tutoring, and more. There was never a time where I felt like I was bothering a professor - in fact, they’d practically beg us to take advantage of their office hours. Drop / withdraw deadlines were lenient. In the event I didn’t mesh with a professor or particular class style, you’re able to withdraw without any punishment or questions asked before the deadline. AKA, try before you buy! It’s great if you’re somebody like me who needs a very specific class style to be able to succeed; whether it be due to accessibility needs/neurodivergence/etc. I am currently sitting at a 4.0, a spot on the national honor society, and am flooded with scholarship offers after my time at PCC. I am so grateful to the professors and staff here that showed me I was capable of doing more with my life. If you have a chance to take classes from Professors Joseph Fitzgibbon, Brett Schaerer, Randy Blazak, Elona Casady, or Carl Yao - I say DO IT. After two years, I can confidently say that these professors were my absolute favorite. Thank you PCC!!

Good place for your daily walks. The place is well maintained. There is also a trail alongside the courts.
