Superb. HCC is one of the best community college in Maryland. They offer many degree programs, short courses and language ESL classes.
HCC allowed me a space to believe in myself again. I dealt with a lot of shame from failing my first try at college in my turbulent years after high school. They believed in me, and l even received my first scholarship. Even though it was a small amount, it helped me to move past my shame and fear. The instructors and administrative staff were happy and helpful. I didn't feel like I annoyed them with my questions or concerns. I truly love this school, and I feel genuinely sad to leave a place that allowed me to grow so much.
HCC opened their doors for the 2025 Maryland HANMADANG, and the facilities were outstanding! Beautiful facilities, great parking, and easy to find!
I'm an HCC student, so I feel like I have credibility to share my experience. HCC is a great college with tons of cool places, great buildings, events and programs. For example, RCF building is top-notch. You should see it for yourself if you don't believe me. Also, a program, I'm not it yet, called Howard Pride is about empowering black students. Mr. Lamb makes sure you are safe in his office! One last thing I want to say is about the food pantry. They have hours, but when they are open, it looks like heaven inside. They also have a meal kit for you, so you can go home and cook food to your liking. There are more things I want to add, but this would take an hour to read if I did. HCC is a great college to get credits in general.
My son is about to start here and rhe visit was very welcoming and informative. The fact the he will ha w the support he needs is very great.
It saddens me to leave this review. HCC used to be my happy place. Until they destroyed my dream. I was denied my ADA accommodations, I was bullied unmercifully by a professor, and the administration did nothing. I was handed off from one administrator to another in an attempt to fix the damage caused in an attempt to run out the clock so I couldn't pursue legal action. It's the worst academic institution in the state. Kathleen Heatherington's administration was on point, and they cared about the students, all the students. This current administration is a sham! No one accepts responsibility for their inactions, the title 9 deputy is a joke she did not a single thing she said she would do to help me. I'm a senior citizen on 100% disability I wanted to learn a skill that would allow me to return to work. I don't want to be on disability. They took the government money for my education fraudulently. I've got over 90 credits, I'm a Phi Theta Kappa honor student and I have no degree. This has gotten me no where...don't enroll here! It's a nightmare institution with frauds in administrative positions and Instructors that bully disabled students (Especially the allied health programs...STAY AWAY!)
Excellent college. Very professional faculty and tight knit curriculum
I went to HCC for a basketball tournament. Very clean kept. The whole campus was clean, and there was plenty of parking
Took an accelerated winter class and failed. The professor told us on day one not everyone would pass and that he has never taught this specfic class before (calculus) and had everyone in the course pass, but I was determined. I went to tutoring everyday in the RFC Center from 12-5 (in addition to seeing an outside tutor) and attended office hours. I tried to enroll to take the class again the following semester online and was told outright no by the chair of the department. HCC aims to make education afforable, not easy. This class cost roughly $700 for an in-county student and $850 for an out of county student, one out of county student had taken this class three times before they were able to pass. I wouldn't recommend if you need a course for an outside university. That being said, academic services was very helpful and advocated on my behalf. Edited May 2023 - I graduated from Johns Hopkins with all A’s and one B in my masters program. So 🤷🏼♀️
This is an excellent college, in which professors really know how to teach and to relate to students. Most students will transfer to four-year colleges and so will save a lot of money. I have talked with university professors. They have a great deal of respect for Howard CC. One especially noted the excellence in advising students.
