Current WGU student here! Not sure what all these nasty reviews are really here for. This school has been incredible for me as I am working full time and a full time student as well. Being able to get everything done at my own pace has been so nice. I have been grateful to receive help from my mentor Jenelle English as well as my professors. My mentor has been an amazing asset in making me feel supported and capable. I'm genuinely grateful for this school and my experience so far.

I attended this school and had a very disappointing and frustrating experience. Despite paying out of pocket—$1,000 per month—I was repeatedly failed during video assessments. I failed eight times, and each time I was given a vague or inconsistent excuse. (I HAD 2 CLASSES LEFT) I believe one of the reasons behind these repeated failures is financial—they seem to push students to retake assessments to collect more money. I had no choice but to drop out, even though I was committed and paying my own way. To international students or anyone paying from their own pocket: think twice before enrolling here. In my experience, the staff were unprofessional, and the environment felt more focused on money than on helping students succeed. There are better, more honest institutions out there. Don't waste your time or money.

For a dad wanting to go back to school while staying home with the family, this was a great choice! It was self paced, with a minimum required credit completion each term. I ended up with a Bachelor Degree which allowed for me to reset my career path. Thank you WGU! If I had to be critical of one thing, well, there was some fumbling when initially getting enrolled but nothing serious.

This school is absolutely unprofessional and do not have students best interests at heart. I pulled out over $40k of student loans to go to school part-time (you HAVE to pay for full-time even if you aren't attending full-time) and when I ran out of student loan money, I got on a payment plan. After being about a week late on my payment, they immediately disenrolled me from school mid-semester. Then they immediately put me in collections, even though they did not provide me with services for the second part of the semester. When I tried to dispute on my credit report, the school stated that since I had been enrolled "past the half-way point" I was required to pay for the full semester. I paid off the debt and saved up some money to re-enroll at which point they told me that my program had "changed" and that I would require an additional year and a half worth of credits and over 70 of the credits I earned "Didn't count" toward my degree anymore. When I requested an appeal about this, I was told (by MULTIPLE PEOPLE) that the appeal had been approved. Then a week before I was supposed to start school again, another person called me to get everything all finalized. They started talking about how many credits I had, and when I told them that was wrong and about my appeal being approved, they told me they had no idea who I talked to but the appeal was NOT approved and that I had to earn an additional 70+ credits. I immediately told them I wanted nothing to do with that school ever again. It was such an awful experience. And I wasted $40k on a degree I probably won't ever see because they decided to "restructure".

This school is for people who like dealing with unnecessary BS, and it's not for people who want their own independence. I don't know how you consider yourself to be self-paced when I can't even register for my own classes. The enrollment process would've been a lot faster if I hadn't had to wait for my enrollment counselor to answer the phone. Weekly mentor calls are pointless and forced. Let's not forget that literally every objective assessment is proctored, and I have to wait hours for a proctor, who isn't even associated with WGU, just to fail me for looking to the left. I will be taking my money elsewhere; this school is a complete waste of time.

WGU offers a unique self-paced learning environment that can significantly accelerate your degree completion, but success depends entirely on your personal discipline and organization skills. The competency-based format allows you to move quickly through subjects you already understand while spending more time mastering challenging concepts, and the mentor support system genuinely helps with academic planning and stress management. However, you're completely responsible for staying on track with your studies - if you struggle with time management or need regular instructor interaction to stay motivated, this probably isn't the right fit for you. The university provides excellent resources and creates an environment designed for success, but you must bring the self-motivation and organizational skills to take full advantage of what they offer. Overall, WGU is an excellent choice for working professionals or highly disciplined students who want to earn a legitimate degree on their own timeline, but it requires a level of personal accountability that not everyone is prepared to handle.

I am a first gen almost 42 year old Mom to three sons. I started with WGU 8/1/24. I finished with my Bachelors in Human Resource Management in 5/25. I had the BEST experience with them. My Mentor Andrea W. was fantastic! I loved being bale to go at my own pace and work on things when I could as I also work full time. I am starting back on 9/1/25 in the Master's of Management and Leadership program. I can not wait!!!

Work at your own pace and flexible with your time. My mentor rocks and checks in every week to make sure I am completing tasks and sticking to my goals. Very satisfied and great option if you are a parent, full time worker, or wanting to learn something new. Nothing but a positive experience in my first year.

Started my MBA July 1st! So far I like it, however some classes are just a lot of readings, so miss the lecture/interaction as a regular university, however it is much more affordable! Being based in Utah they have the same accreditation as the University of Utah and BYU. However during enrollment I think the person forgot to follow up after my transcript was evaluated, so I had to nudge them. However my transcript was evaluated towards the end of the week before a holiday weekend, so I think they just overlooked it by mistake.

I was originally slated to start classes on January 1, 2025. It is now August 14, 2025 and I had to resubmit my application, and pay for more transcripts from my previous school that were the same transcripts I sent before and still get ghosted by admissions. Today, I finally did an online chat which basically told me that there was a "systems error" so they never even sent my application to admissions to begin with, but they can have something done in 3 business days. They then told me I couldn't start class till October and not September. I finally gave up, told them to cancel my application, and then gave them the riot act on how unprofessional the enrollment process was handled and canceled the chat before they could respond. All they want is to get money for their WGU Academy classes (costs $99 a month), but do not want to admit you as a student. And I literally live less than 30 minutes from their main office!!!!! Seriously?!?!?! What is so hard about the basic function of enrollment literally every college has to be able to do that is difficult for WGU to even do a decent job at?
