BCOM is a great place to receive a medical education. Here are just a few of the many benefits you can expect if you attend this school: - The faculty and staff are very open to student feedback, and they make positive changes according to student suggestions and needs - State of the art facilities. The sim lab and virtual anatomy lab are particularly unique to BCOM - Grounds are always kept clean, and the landscaping looks great - Various perks from a close relationship with NMSU - The Bear Den offers various food and coffee options at affordable prices

We could not be more excited to have had the opportunity to visit our newest addition to New Mexico University, Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine! Not only is this one of the newest and most beautiful buildings on the campus, it houses cutting technology for teaching our doctors of tomorrow as well as housing a million dollar art collection. There will be a clinic opening soon at the College so we look forward to watching Las Cruces gain valuable new talent and services.

I have been working with Courtney from the admissions office. She has done a great job at answering my admissions questions and providing me with the necessary information to move forward with the application process. I would highly recommend BCOM to students who have a passion for medicine and want to help people in underserved communities.

Burrell College of Osteopathic ( BCOM) medicine located in Las Cruces, New Mexico is a well-managed private medical college. It is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association. Spread over fifty acres of land interspersed with scenic beauty, one of the newest medical colleges in the US, BCOM employs the most advanced technologies, and learning methods to train its students. The college conducts graduate and continuing osteopathic medical education and research. Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or DOs has fully licensed physicians who practice in all areas of medicine. It emphasizes whole-person treatment and cares instead of treating for the known symptoms of a disease. DOs also learn osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) which is sometimes used as an alternative to more aggressive treatments and drugs. Osteopathic treatments include the usage of prescription drugs and include technology for the diagnosis and evaluation of injuries. The main difference between allopathic doctors ( MDs)and Osteopathic Doctors(DOs) is that while allopathic treatments focus on alleviating the symptoms of a disease, osteopathic involve the treatment of the patient, and not the disease according to Dr. Edwin S Purcell who holds a PhD in anatomy and has experience in the medical field. In addition to that osteopathy focuses on preventive healthcare by helping patients to develop an attitude and lifestyle to keep diseases at bay. However, the main difference between an allopathic physician and an osteopathic doctor is because of a technique called Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. It is a treatment method for several conditions and involves moving and manipulating a person’s muscles and joints to help diagnose, prevent, and treat certain conditions. I am one of the beneficiaries of this technique. Dr Laboy, taught me the manipulative exercises for joint pain, and they worked well. This is a technique which you could try before popping in a lot of pills. The college is equipped with well-trained faculty and infrastructure to meet the needs of the students. This author happened to deliver a programme for the benefit of the faculty. It was attended by John L. Hummer, MHA, President & Chief Executive Officer, and Dr. William (Bill) Pieratt, DO, Dean and chief academic officer of the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine and most of the faculty. Dr. Harald M. Stauss, MD, Professor of Pharmacology & Director of Student Research was the protagonist to connect the author and the BCOM. Interestingly the programme received more than 95 per cent positive feedback from the participants. The PowerPoint presentation was titled ‘Art of beginning the day’ and was sponsored by the Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Center, Madurai, India. Dr. William Piret, who attended the programme expressed his happiness and told the author that he is extremely impressed with the presentation. Dr Laboy, a sweet and smiling doctor is clearly an asset to the organization. Most senior citizens like me are struggling with various kinds of joint pain, arthritis, or osteoporosis. Osteopathic treatments could become a boon for them. Thanks to Burrell college for its longstanding vision.

A great opportunity for the Medical proffession to learn more about treaty the root causes of an illness or injury and not just throw meds at the symptoms.
