Liberty University — All Talk, No Grace If you’re considering Liberty for your graduate degree — especially in Social Work — run. Don’t walk. Run. I was a hardworking grad student who genuinely wanted to grow in this field. I’m a full-time professional in social services — actually out here doing the work. So when I was subpoenaed to testify in court as part of my job (you know, the kind of thing social workers do?), I did the responsible thing: I notified my professor and the department ahead of time that I’d be missing ONE intensive day. Not a week. Not the semester. One. Day. And what did Liberty’s School of Behavioral Sciences do? They hit me with a robotic “unfortunately, no exceptions” response. No makeup assignment. No grace. No consideration. Nothing. Just, “you signed a form.” So let’s get this straight: a court subpoena — a legal obligation — is treated the same as someone ditching class to go to brunch? Make it make sense. The irony of this happening in a social work program is laughable. You’d expect flexibility. You’d expect empathy. You’d expect someone to say, “Wow, you’re doing meaningful work — let’s figure this out.” But no. The program is so obsessed with rules and red tape that it completely misses the point of what social work even is. And the kicker? They hide behind “faith” while pushing people out for being human. Newsflash: Jesus didn’t say “no accommodations, you missed attendance.” Maybe reread the Gospels. So no — I won’t be rescheduling the course. I’ve already transferred to a university that understands life happens, especially when you’re out here trying to be a decent human being while holding down a demanding job in child welfare. Liberty failed me. Not because I failed academically — but because they couldn’t extend the very values they claim to teach. Save yourself the tuition and the trauma. Pick literally any other school.
I attended Liberty University Online from 2012 to 2016, with breaks in between taking online classes from other colleges. By far, Liberty University had the most organized and streamlined process for registering for and taking online classes. Their online degree completion plan was easy to follow, which made planning for and registering for classes less stressful. It was a more flexible and convenient alternative to traditional college! Just be aware that many of their online classes are 8-week, so the workload can be more challenging if you take more than two classes at once while trying to maintain work-life balance. I appreciated the Christian perspective, but felt that it could have been more thoroughly woven into the curriculum. Overall, I was blessed by LU's online experience and would recommend it to others.
We were heading south on vacation and decided to stop by Liberty University. Our oldest daughter is attending Liberty online so this was her first time seeing the campus. Wow! It is an absolutely gorgeous and pristine campus. I am glad that we stopped by and checked it out. It definitely was impressive.
I am literally supposed to begin ONLINE classes in less than 48 hours, and I have been currently waiting on hold for over 2 hours to withdrawal/drop my classes before my class starts on 08/18/25. Rationale for long hold times are: "minimal staff during summer term, too busy during regular school hours". However, From the first point of enrollment and admission to the school, (several months in advance), my experience has been impeccably SUBSTANDARD! As an ONLINE GRADUATE student, you will experience minimal guidance/help. It has been nearly impossible to get the necessary support essential to be successful. Initially, Liberty admissions made mistakes in my enrollment/admission process, thereby delaying my start date. I was informed I would have to complete extra, unnecessary courses, which were later removed after I appealed their decision. I have elected to move forward with a local university, rather than move forward with Liberty. When choosing and educational institution for career/educational needs, please choose carefully, and reconsider Liberty if you are someone who needs guidance and extra support, because from my experience, you will NOT get that from this institution as an ONLINE student. Residential services are more accessible, as that department was the ONLY way to access the ONLINE services.
Love this school. In an online masters degree, happy with the flexibility and program. Great convocation guest speakers like Inky Johnson, Demi Tebow, etc., very inspiring. They truly encourage all points of view, they have invited people like Charlie Kirk but also have had Bernie Sanders as a speaker. Highly recommend for those who are looking to continue their education while working.
Graduation night was spectacular! Such a blessing to be apart of celebrating a special moment in our son’s life but also over thirty thousand graduates. This campus is beautiful and the views all around it. The people that has built this community up are absolutely amazing.
Liberty is a good school and a really awesome place to visit. The history of prayer here is inspiring and convicting. Prayer Mountain is a must see. Beautiful campus and strong emphasis on Christian values and patriotism. Would definitely come back here again!
Do NOT attend. If I could give zero stars, I would... I was misled about an application fee waiver, only to be charged $50 after paying nearly $2,400 in tuition and fees out-of-pocket. Representatives gave conflicting information, and when I asked for help, I was met with condescension and refusal to escalate my concerns. This experience has been frustrating, misleading, and unprofessional. All of which is deeply concerning for a supposed institution of learning. However it is especially disappointing coming from a Christian institution. I would not recommend this school based on how poorly they’ve handled communication and billing. Please READ EVERY 1 STAR REVIEW before deciding to apply !! I wish I had.
Run… Run… Run… Far Away from This University! The purpose of this review is to warn any prospective student before taking the next step with this university. Once you enroll at Liberty University, your voice will not be heard. I don’t typically write reviews, but when injustice occurs, I feel a responsibility to speak out. I have been attending Liberty University for just over nine months, and my experience has been nothing short of disappointing and disheartening. I enrolled at the doctoral level, expecting to be taught, supported, and guided through the rigorous academic process. Instead, I was thrown into advanced coursework with the assumption that I already possessed extensive doctoral-level knowledge. For context: I earned my Master’s degree in 2007. I’ve been out of school for over 16 years. From the beginning, support was minimal—and often nonexistent. This past term was by far the worst. It was my second attempt at this particular course, and I knew going in that it would be challenging. I expected to receive more support this time around—but that didn’t happen. I noticed I was performing worse in this term than I did previously, despite turning in my assignments on time and reaching out for help. In my frustration, I contacted the advising team, only to be given conflicting information. I was told I could switch instructors—but that was not true. I remained assigned to Dr. Valerena Candy and was told instead to seek tutoring. I took that advice seriously. I met with tutors, reviewed my assignments, and submitted my work with confidence. Despite my efforts, I still received poor grades. When I reached out to Dr. Candy for clarity, she spoke with a heavy accent and explained things in a way that was confusing and over my head. After our Microsoft Teams meeting, I was even more confused. Eventually, I filed a formal complaint with the university, detailing my experience with both Dr. Candy and the advising team. This is the response I received: • “The grades earned on assignments reflected your ability to comprehend and provide the appropriate responses—not the amount of assistance you received from Professor Candy or any other professor.” • “Earning good grades is dependent on following the assignment instructions and providing the requested information in a doctoral-level manner.” • “Your assignments were graded in accordance with the appropriate grading rubric by Professor Candy.” These statements completely dismissed the issues I raised—specifically, the lack of instructional support, the inconsistency in advising, and the impact on my academic performance. Liberty University may stand behind their faculty—as any institution should—but they clearly do not conduct thorough investigations into legitimate student concerns. And I know I am not the only student who has experienced this. They likely silence students like me, or hope that no one reads these reviews—while continuing to boost enrollment numbers and collect tuition. Perhaps their blind trust in faculty stems from the belief that, as a Christian university, their instructors always act with integrity. But unfortunately, that trust is misplaced. To make matters worse, there is no meaningful help with research papers. The writing lab is ineffective and a complete waste of time. Every interaction I had with the registrar’s office was marked by rudeness and apathy. The staff acted like helping students was an inconvenience. If helping students is a burden, you should not be in student services. If you’re considering Liberty University, I strongly urge you: take your money elsewhere. Go to a university that will support, respect, and value you as a student. Liberty University failed me—and I hope this review helps someone else avoid the same frustration, isolation, and emotional toll. Once again: Run… Run… Run… Far Away from This University! There is nothing fake or exaggerated about this review. This is the real experience of a real student, treated this way by both faculty and staff.
My review is regarding the treatment a close friend of mine has received from the financial aid office. I have two degrees in healthcare and was going to further my education in Christian counseling. Im scared to death now to deal with the financial aid office. My friend did her due diligence to have all forms and required information in place in plenty of time to begin classes in the paralegal certification program. Not only did the financial aid department mess her information up, they told her it was her problem to fix and that it would cost her and extra $550. I realize Liberty University is a business, but there is nothing Christ-like in how she was treated. She cried all day yesterday. She is so disappointed, and has lost total faith in the Christian aspect of Liberty's practices and treatment of students or potential students. My friend is also an alumni. Liberty, you should be ashamed of yourselves. You may be huge, but God is bigger, and He will hold you accountable. Btw...your reputation is already in the hole and you're doing nothing to make it better.
We visited Liberty tower today. The view is amazing. You can take an elevator to the 15th floor and there is an Indoor viewing area. There is another elevator that will take you to the 17th floor and an outdoor viewing area. You can see …
We had a great tour of the football practice field, locker rooms, team film rooms and cafeteria. The staff was extremely helpful, the coaches were helpful and everyone seemed kind. The school is much larger than we anticipated and the surrounding scenery is very picturesque.
We LOVE Liberty University and Lynchburg, VA! God is all over that place...inside and out! Thankful at how LU goes above and beyond what the world does in all they do!
Despite having some great professors the administration is only interested in making money. I got my bachelor degree from them but they were not very nice when I tried to work on my masters program. They were not helpful or nice in dealing …

Very clean, beautiful & welcoming campus. So much to do. I see why so many want to go to this school. Very well organized too!!
I had the time of my life here. I got to meet people from all over the world. The reason I chose this campus to spend 4 years of my life on was because of how modern everything was. I really appreciate how they're always building new facilities and growing the school.
Detailed review ahead! Most universities I toured (and even the one I finished my undergraduate studies at) would get one star from me, so three stars is legitimately substantial. Most professors here are great, God is certainly the focus, …
Set up a campus tour. It was 3 hours which entailed visiting the dorms and dining areas. To include the fitness and recreation center. As well the Jerry Falwell Library and Vines Center. We walked the campus for a few hours and then we rode …
