The school is flipping gigantic! The staff are friendly and there are many resources available to assist students to have a really superb academic year! It's expensive to attend, but worth it in the end!
Counselors don't care. You can tell they're over-worked to push metrics for the college. If you already have everything you need to succeed in a 4 year college, an individualistic work ethic, and a love for online classes with teachers who take literal weeks to respond/grade anything, then this is the college for you. Waste of time, money, and effort.
The advisors only give you incomplete information and you get a different story from each advisor. They make it way more difficult to do online classes than it should be, especially since all the work is completed on an outside source and all they do is transfer the grade to their books. And God forbid you want to change your degree path, hours of paperwork and justifying why you should be able to change, IF it gets approved you're on academic probation. Ridiculous. Go to a real college and save yourself the headache.
SPSCC is a great campus, but the parking is awful and asking questions to One Stop is a hit or miss. The professors make up for it though, they are good and care deeply about educating and helping their students. I find myself often going to my professors for help and advice more than anyone else. 4 out of 5.
I went to school here 2 years ago. I am unfortunately giving this school a 3 star because I had to spend most of my time at home doing everything online due to covid. So I wasn't able to really make friends with anyone while I was at SPSCC since it was unfortunately against the law to be around people. Also instructors would always take forever to answer my emails which was very frustrating. If covid never happened I maybe would've had a better of an experience at South Sound. I believe it is a good school it just would've been nice not being isolated for 2 years and having a hard time getting ahold of instructors if there was an assignment that wasn't clear to me. It was also frustrating going through 2 years and not getting a proper graduation ceremony. All it was was students driving their cars around campus and staff waving on the side saying congratulations then everyone left. Not a ceremony I wish I had. Luckily skipping 2 more years forward I went to Evergreen and there I had a better ceremony.
I'm about to start my 3rd quarter, and so far it's been a great experience. Teachers are helpful, as well as all the help offered in the writing center and math lab. My advisor has been wonderful so far, helping me set up a academic plan to follow so I don't waste my time. My financial aid advisor is also pretty prompt, as long as you take into account that you're not the only student and that emails take time to address. Though everytime I've had an issue I've just scheduled a meeting with either advisor.(no wait time that way) The Olympia campus is beautiful, and they have a bunch of events to take part in. Overall I have had a great experience, I feel like you get out what you put in. :)
I'm starting my second year of college here. Financial aid is a joke but the staff is really helpful. I loved all my professors so far and although they do give out a lot of work, the assignments tend to be easy. For example, I had an 20 page paper to write, my professor gave us two weeks to do it. I had trouble and she helped me work out blocks of time so I could write my paper. The student body itself is open and welcoming. There are plenty of activities to do and great people to meet.
I graduated from here in 2008 and loved it. No you're not going to like every teacher you meet - that's just the way it goes. However every teacher I had seemed to care about the subject they were teaching and making a difference in our academic lives. The staff here are super helpful as well if you have any questions. I like many struggled with math and was able to get help at the math center every time I needed it. This is a really good community college and I would recommend it a 100%.
This institution of higher education is very personable. Staff and faculty are eager to help.
Great school. I see a lot of complaints about financial aid, but financial aid is a pain to deal with anywhere, so ignore that. I loved jist about every professor i had. The majority of them had doctorates even though that isn't a requirement for a community college. The campus is beautiful. I learned a lot here. Most of the professors i had were extremely helpful and always willing to have a nice chat about their field. I miss this school.
