Maine Media Workshops + College

The MFA program at Maine Media is truly top tier. It is an inspiring and rigorous experience. The faculty and staff are exceptional mentors, and the workshops are incredibly valuable, offering practical skills and transformative insight for artists at every level.

I took the Photography & Environmental Advocacy workshop (2024) with Jim Nickelson and have to say it was truly a wonderful experience. Jim has a deep understanding and appreciation of the work of many influential environmental photographers (Edward Burtynsky, Robert Adams, Eliot Porter etc...) which helps me think about my project in a more thoughtful way. I felt Jim took a personal interest in my project and his insightful comments helped me significantly improve my vision and craft. He provided many useful suggestions from initial project conception through gallery submissions. Jim is a very collaborative and enjoyable guy to work with and learn from. I hope to take more workshops with Jim.

The “Editing the Visual Narrative” live workshop with Sarah Leen and Bill Marr was terrific. The workshop provided me with a focused framework for completing my ten-year project, and their expertise guided me in preparing this work for polish. I look forward to collaborating with them beyond the workshop, and recommend Sarah & Bill’s class highly. This workshop is exceptional for any professional photographer or documentary storyteller who wants to reinvent how they approach their focus, and learn the process from the industry’s very best. Attending the Young Advanced Film making program here. It was an amazing experience and I learned so much. If you have an interest in learning about film, photography, or acting this is the place for you.
