Wonderful faculty, Great facilities, visionary leaders, and views of the lake. Their U Spatial GIS program is exceptional.

I really enjoyed my experience here overall. I graduated in the spring of 2017. Although there are some noticeable issues with the multiple charges to your account and a major parking problem, I feel the instructors I had the overall education I received made up for it. It's not a perfect school, but I would recommend it overall. In addition to enjoying campus life at UMD, you can also enjoy the beauty of Duluth.

UMD is a great school, it just doesn't deserve five stars. The business school, LSBE, deserves five stars. UMD wide, some of their professors are needlessly political which can lessen their credibility as objective educators. The liberal arts school is comical is some of their class offerings, however there are decent programs within the liberal arts school that should not be overlooked, such as anything related to world languages. The hockey team is great. The weight room is great, would be a lot better if you are on a sports team and have access to their better facility. It you want a commuter campus, this is the college for you. The food on campus is subpar but some days it can be pretty good. Only department I heard a lot of complaints about was the physics department (at the time of writing they may have improved but be wary). Would be four stars if it was a wet campus. Would be five stars if the University system cared about this campus but they give the impression of only caring about the Twin Cities campus.

I've been on this campus since I was a little kid. My family members have taught here, I did music camp here, robotics, met with the diversity teams and the students in the intercultural center, speech meet, many of events and courses. I have yet to come here as a UMD student but I always feel welcome and included here. Amazing campus!

The staff and environment is usually pretty good. However, there is a strong politically biased undertone with most professors and the general population. Also, the parking is absolutely disgraceful. Don't pay for the $300 parking permit.... you will never find a spot and when your inevitably late for class, your professor will tell you to come earlier. Even though you drove through 5 lots for 20 minutes. Absolute money grab. Update: Recent discovery that even if you purchased their joke of a parking permit, if somehow the sticker falls off your windshield you will still get a ticket and be expected to pay it even with proof of a permit. Pathetic. Bumped down to one star from two.

Small enough to feel like a community, big enough to offer tons of unique and quality opportunities to students. Most faculty really care about their students and the success of their graduates; that focus is part of the institution's culture (versus an emphasis on research first, second, and third for faculty). Getting to attend University in one of America's best college towns and outdoor cities doesn't hurt either. An overlooked and underestimated institution.

It was a good experience. I only went because my parents made me go to college. Wish I would have joined the military or a trades union, would be better off 15 years later today. Many “liberal arts” classes are required and have no benefit. Pick your degree wisely, mine is now worthless. If I had a do over, I would not have gone there.

As a student of UMD, I think its a perfectly fine college. The community is great, everything is close to each other, and the classes are good. It's really hard to be super descriptive because everyone will have different teachers, which dorm they live in, and friend group, and all of those will effect how you feel about UMD. Overall I think its a great pick in a great city!

Do not go here for art, they do not hone your skills but simply give you assignments and grade how well you do. Too heavy on the art theory, which is good, but not the only thing when it comes to art. The advisors failed to guide me and explain the 4 year layout as well and I graduated with a lesser degree because of that. FIND A DIFFERENT UNIVERSITY FOR ART.
