Norfolk State University has been one of the most frustrating and disappointing institutions I’ve ever dealt with. The level of disorganization across departments is shocking. From financial aid to admissions, it is nearly impossible to get clear, consistent answers. Instead, students are sent in circles, receiving conflicting information from different staff members, which wastes valuable time and delays important processes. The lack of communication is unacceptable. Phone calls go unanswered, emails are ignored, and when you finally do reach someone, you’re often met with unhelpful or dismissive attitudes. Students should not have to beg for the basic support needed to succeed in their education. It feels as though Norfolk State prioritizes collecting tuition over providing actual guidance and resources for their students. The overall culture of inefficiency and lack of accountability reflects poorly on the university as a whole. I cannot recommend Norfolk State to anyone seeking a professional, supportive, and reliable college experience. Until major improvements are made in staff training, communication, and accountability, this school will continue to fail the students it claims to serve.
This university is horrible when it comes to maintaining open lines of communication with students. God Forbid you are an out of state student you will literally have to be u at the crack of dawn to reach someone if even then. Student workers are rude they hang up on callers, it's all around horrible. Please fix this.
My former (1989-1992)University has evolved over the yrs. Great to see the change. Surprising to see and know Kenneth Giles is the cross country and track & field coach. The campus is nice. Behold the Green and Gold!!
Norfolk State University did a phenomenal job in ensuring the students who graduated had a choice and opportunity to walk across the stage! Also, the university went beyond and offered cold water to those attending to combat the heat. I am certain all who had family and friends were very excited. I am super excited about my niece getting her bachelors in sociology! Thank you Norfolk State University for a job well done on 5/15/21!!!!
Norfolk State has a clear bag policy at the football games. You can have a cross body bag but only the size of your hand. Security tried to tell me I could not come in with my bag but I challenged him and he just checked inside my bag. Several bags were left on the outside of the gate which I thought was ridiculous. All they had to do was check the inside of the bags. Other than that it was a good visit.
My son goes here i love the campus and the energy
Beautiful campus. I recently came for a graduate school tour. My tour guide was great however, the staff seemed to be unprepared and unprofessional even though they knew we were coming. When we first arrived we had to call multiple departments because no one was answering the phone. There was no one to meet us when we first arrive so we had to wait in the parking lot for about 15 minutes before we got in contact with them. When we got to the social work department, the main department we came to explore, no staff came down to talk with us, our tour guide was a freshman undergrad so she wasn’t well versed in the grad program. Overall, none of us have an interest in completing a grad program at an unprofessional and unprepared university.
I recently attended NSU's 2-day Orientation with my son and was amazed at how much work and effort they put into it. Not only did my son feel welcomed, but I felt welcomed and appreciated as well. After the Check-in and Move-in process, they had multiple scheduled Activities for us to participate in- together and separately, including meals. The Tour we had prior to Orientation made me feel more at ease about my son attending Norfolk State University this Fall 2024. They have a safe, accommodating Campus with up-to-date Technology. They also have various Counselors and Services to assist students with any issues they may have. I can't wait for my son to learn and grow during his time at NSU. I am a very proud NSU Mom. #BEHOLD 💚💛
Campus was small and easy to get around. Everyone was polite
I will forever give my Alma mater FIVE WHOLE STARS 🔰 This school gave me everything I need to be who I am. TWICE. The experience was so much more than a textbook/professor education. It was a community. A family. A place where perfected punctuality, advocacy, and independence. I learned to run a business, supervise others, and manage a budget through student leadership. As a Norfolk State Spartan I realized my love for service to the community abd will forever serve even when in leadership positions. I have been around the world and Norfolk State will always be a major part of who I am.
It is always a pleasure and privilege returning to my alma mater. The university has grown significantly and is absolutely gorgeous. Attended orientation with my nephew for the Virginia College Affordability …
I am a spring 2013 Graduate of Norfolk state University. I love this university so much! I learned so much about life and met so many wonderful people. This is a school that is always progressing. There was never a moment during my …
Great school, the professor really care about the students well being. Students are involved with the community. Campus is beautiful. The campus also is centrally located around the Hampton roads area. Many places to shop, eat, night life and light rail.
Music dept is second to none for those interested. Great location and city. Smaller university with a more one on atmosphere amongst students and professors. School should start hosting more events on their beautiful campus to help students gain more experience far beyond the walls of the classroom and Brown Hall. Behold!
Its a wonderful university! The classes aren't too large. Great instructors that care. Norfolk State University has been the absolute best decision I could have made for college!! Proud to be a Spartan!!!
Very proud Spartan here. I left my home in NYC to attend NSU back in 1988 at the age of 18. However, I really grew up while attending college. I loved my courses (some harder than others). I loved my professors (some more than others). …
This school is awful. No decent parking, only 1 elevator In each dorm. The staff are rude, disrespectful and just unbelievable. The important building close to early. The whole place is disorganized and dysfunctional. I do not recommend attending here unless you want a massive headache and wasted energy and time.
The good thing and what I *really* desire the most about the "Green" and "Gold," is that visitation, even when you are not invited the University allows you to break free and be yourself. …
Great school. Students are normal and not crazy and wild. Awesome football program and I like the woman's volleyball team this year. Expecting great things from them
My experience coming to watch my cousin play basketball has been pretty good. The grounds are clean they make sure everyone wears there mask accordingly and make sure proper distance btwn seats for other plp to sit in the sections.
