Excellent college which is part of a large Japanese University system. The institution has the highest retention, graduation, and transfer rate in Hawaii. It is also the cheapest overall, even though all of its facilities are brand new, modern, and classrooms are restricted to no more than 18 students. If you want an education at the Gateway to the Pacific, this is the place to go.

Students are seen as a pain in the neck to some staff.

Great educational facility for foreign students... China, Japan, Korea

This school seriously doesn't help you improve your English, and the tutors are completely unreliable (though there are a few who are). The library is open, the Student Services Office (OSS) hours are short, the cafeteria hours are inconsistent, the wifi is poor, the shuttle bus is late and the timetable is a mess. Also, the school facilities are poor (especially the toilets, showers, and library). And the tuition is expensive. In the preparatory program (college program (which has levels CP1 to 5)), if you fail even one subject you have to retake the class, or if your TOEFL (iTP) score does not meet the preparatory level (CP1 410, CP2 420, CP3 430, CP4 440, CP5 450), you have to retake the class. For example, in my placement test (TOEFL iTP, writing (about 50 minutes), interview with a foreign teacher (5 to 10 minutes)), I got a TOEFL iTP score of 420, a writing score of 450 words, and was able to speak quite well in the interview with the foreign teacher. As a result, I started in CP2. In that case, you could not advance unless you had a GPA of 2.5 and a TOEFL iTP score of 420.) These systems do not exist in the main program (Liberal Arts program). I think that is strange. This is because the preparatory program limits the number of times a student can retake a class (CP1-2: three times, CP3-5: two times). This determines whether or not they will be expelled. This system also does not exist in the regular program. Additionally, the TOEFL iTP is only offered on the last Thursday of the month (weeks 1-10), and that's the only time you can take the TOEFL. This determines whether or not you can advance to the next grade. Even if you enroll in the regular program, there are no classes that allow you to specialize in your department. Key Points ・Good Points → Even if your TOEFL iTP score is lower than the grades required for your class, if you have a GPA of 3.7 or higher, you will receive an additional 10 points on your TOEFL iTP score. In this case, you may be able to advance to the next grade. (Example: My class is CP1, and I have a GPA of 3.7 and a TOEFL iTP score of 400. Anything below that won't count toward my grade. Instead, I must achieve a score of 420 or higher to move up to the next level.) → You can advance to the next level even if your TOEFL iTP score is lower than your previous one. This is because your highest TOEFL iTP score will be recorded for one year. However, if your score is 100 points lower than the previous time, you will not be accepted. (Example: CP1: TOEFL iTP score of 440 (requires 410 points) Advancement permitted CP2: 415 points (requires 420 points) Advance permitted CP3: 407 points (requires 430 points) Advance permitted CP4: 437 points (requires 440 points) Advance permitted CP5: 449 points (requires 450 points) Not eligible for promotion) →If you hold a TOEFL iTP score of 420 or higher, a TOEIC score of 490-550 or higher, or EIKEN Grade 2 or higher before enrolling at HTIC, you can enter CP2 or higher through the placement test administered at enrollment. In this case, you can advance to the next grade even if your TOEFL iTP score does not meet the requirements for your class (expired scores are not accepted). → No curfew (classrooms, dorms, outdoor hours, etc.) → If you score 450 or above on the TOEFL iTP placement test taken at enrollment, you can advance to the next grade (depending on the number of students enrolled, you may be able to enter from CP5 or above). Cons → Poor facilities (restrooms, showers, library, gym) → Short library and cafeteria hours → There are no promotion requirements in the main course like in the preparatory course. → Even if you advance to the main course, you cannot specialize in your desired department. → Low TOEFL iTP test frequency → High tuition fees, but your English skills do not improve. → Students living in the dorms (HTIC students) are forced to move out during winter break. This is because facilities are maintained and the dorms are cleaned during the break. But when I returned to school or the dorm, nothing had changed and it was still dirty. → The shuttle bus schedule and arrival times were all messed up. → Security was a mess.

It is located a 10-15 minute walk from the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Currently it is located around Waikiki, but in 2014, Apparently they are moving to Kapolei, a little further away.
