Stay away from this college. It is a money grab of a school. If you are planning to attend with your A+ scholarship just know that they will do everything to ensure that you don’t get that scholarship granted. You can do everything right and they will still find a way to make enrolling a living hell. I was automatically dropped from my classes due to not being able to afford them by the due date. This happened only because Maple Woods took too long to get my scholarship granted through A+ because of their delayed action with their submission of my documents. When it came time to pay, it was either pay without the scholarship that I earned or be dropped from my classes. It ended up taking 3 weeks to get me to the point of being able to enroll again. But at that point I had missed too much class to make up the work. So it was either receive an F or a W. Four weeks in, I’m down $3,000 because of the schools lack of communication, functionality, and moral code. I’d also like to mention, I am not the only person that has had this problem with the school. I know of two other people, personally, that have experienced this issue. Stay away if you don’t want to throw your money down the drain. Also, while I’m here I should mention the school likes to hire professors with such heavy foreign accents that it’s almost impossible to understand them at times. If you’re paying for a course taught in english, you shouldn’t have any issues with understanding the professor.

This is the worst school I have ever dealt with. If I could give it a rating of zero and that’s what they would get. I had trouble with the school prior to even enrolling in school. You can never get a hold of a person. It’s either through an email a week later. I don’t even think about trying to reach a live person and financial aid. It’s the little girl who answers the phone who thinks she can help you. I want to talk to somebody and financial aid I don’t want to run around. You should be able to go into the school and sit down and speak to someone in financial aid. Or your academic advisor you should be able to go in anytime or call him on the phone and not wait a week for him to respond to your email or phone calls. You’re a number not a person. It was always rush rush get you and get you out. I drop the class within two weeks of going because I could not access nothing on the computer. It would take five days for my instructor to email me back about questions I had regarding a homework assignment. To me that is completely unacceptable. I understand everybody is busy but if that is the case somebody needs to look at doing something differently.

All of my professors are very smart. I feel like I've gotten a better education here than at Northwest Missouri State. I feel like the teachers are more into what they are speaking about and not just passing you because you pay 8k a semester. The people are nice and the food is good. I recommend this college if you are trying to go back to school or if you are just starting after highschool. It's the same people from your community so I feel it's not as scary as a university. Dr.Fuller is one of my favorites, she teaches anthropology, you should take her class!

I sought out a community college to fulfill my general education credits cheaper, then transfer to a university for my degree. I was absolutely blown away with the staff. Within the first semester, I was in love with the campus, my instructors' dedication to their students success, the pricing, and the free tutoring available for all students. Before the end of my first semester, I was convinced this is where I will graduate from. This school is amazing. People like Gina Draper and William Howell had me convinced, through their passion, that this was the place for me.

I can’t believe the schools are open on an icy day when there are major accidents all over the metropolitan area!! Really ??? No delays in start times??? This is absolutely ridiculous! What about the students who take transit to get there! The buses are not running and you guys don’t even answer the phones!! Very disappointed in who ever is in charge of making that decision! They must have a personal driver with all the money these kids are paying!!! Clearly not driving like the students who have classes today!

I decided to rent my books from maple woods to save me time and money. The manager assisted me and processed two transactions to GUARANTEE that some of my books would be processed for the fall and some of them would be set up for the summer. All of my books were set up for the summer. Which means I would be charged FULL RETAIL value as if they were NEW books when the time came that they were due if it was not corrected. I called the manager within 15 minutes to notify him I received notification this was processed incorrectly. He assured me it would be corrected by the next day. Here we are, 3 weeks later none of my rentals have been corrected. I have called multiple times to find out where my books stand. The manager has given me attitude stating that he would call me to prevent further calls and let me know I would not have any fees charged to my credit card when my books become due at the incorrect date. No one calls me to update me on my account. No one has corrected a SIMPLE issue with my account. This is the first and ONLY time I will ever rent my books from the book store by walking in. From here on out I will just order online and if there is an error it's on me. This was supposed to be an easy and simple process and it has become a STRESSFUL and INFURIATING experience.

I wish I could just take back the past two years of my life. This college runs so many scams and they do not have an effective method of communication. First, their Associate in Arts - Teaching (AAT) degree makes your take more General Education (GenEd) classes than necessary when compared to their Associate in Arts (AA) degree. This is not including the Education classes, which aren't bad. However, they want you to take more GenEd classes because they are simply trying to get more money out of you, even though most students who transfer to universities find the AA to better equip them for said universities. For example, it is better to have an AA rather than an AAT if you are transferring to Missouri State University, as I have found out the hard way. Next, the bookstore will try to make you pay for books and then "lose" them. In my case, I paid for my sociology textbook, called the bookstore four days later, and was told that they had lost my book so I couldn’t get it. I was then instructed to go to the Maple Woods Bookstore and pick up one that they had in stock. After three different attempts of the employees going to the back to look for my actual book, they told me they had no idea where it was. I was given a used book for when I actually paid for a new book and then they tried to make me pay for the used one too! I received an email today saying that the book I actually paid for had randomly appeared in the Maple Woods Bookstore so I suppose we’ll see, but I have to wait until Monday (a full two weeks after the starting date of my sociology class) because they close early on Fridays. Third, the academic advisors will not answer emails or allow you to set up meetings with them. I emailed my own advisor many times and never got a response so I emailed another advisor and couldn’t get a response from them either. Then, I tried to set up a meeting with my advisor and couldn’t because they were going to be out of the office. So, I tried to get a meeting with any of the advisors and I was told that I was only allowed to meet with my own, assigned advisor, despite the fact that they were out of the office for two weeks. Lastly, all of Metropolitan Community College uses BlackBoard for their courses. However, somehow, instructors are allowed to elect whether they use it or not. Then, if they decide to use it at all, there is no uniformity, meaning that assignments often get lost within the program. This happens because of a lack of uniformity and training on how to use BlackBoard. It’s not like there aren’t other options. Canvas would be a far superior program, especially for the online classes. I used to feel fairly enraged by all of these things but now, ultimately, I feel defeated. But, as I learned from one of my education classes, an educational institution should never make a student feel defeated. I have had about four solid, effective instructors who have provided a sort of distraction from all of these issues. However, that doesn’t change the fact that I wish I had a time machine to escape this pitiful place.

I wish I would of never switched schools. I never State Fair Community College. I switched to Penn Valley and the people who answer the phone never wants to put you through to anyone that you need to speak to. They talk to you like you are trash. I did not qualify for Pell and the students was so rude to me. The staff is not much better

If you haven't been to school in a very long time or just moved to the state. Check to see if you are in the district area. Plus apply for admissions before taking any placement test
