Not everything at LIM is perfect, but honestly, that’s probably true for any college. Your experience here is really what you make of it. Career Services is great for resume help and cleaning up your LinkedIn, but they won’t hand you your required internships; That part is completely on you. I think it’s easy for people to complain about needing multiple internships before graduation, because they expect to be placed in an internship instead of having to find one themselves, but I actually think it’s one of the best parts of the LIM experience. If you take advantage of those opportunities, you graduate with real work experience and a leg up on students from other schools. I had trouble finding an internship my freshman year and was really stressed that it would hold me back a year and screw up graduation but both my career teacher and my academic advisor were really helpful and I just ended up taking the course a semester later with no issues. This isn’t a traditional campus experience — there’s no meal plan, so if you love trying new foods or cooking, you’ll be fine! If you’re self-motivated and proactive, this is a great place to be. Living in NYC offers tons of opportunities both in the fashion industry and just in life! LIM offers tons of opportunities to volunteer at Fashion Week, attend panels with amazing speakers, and get involved with the fashion industry, but you shouldn’t expect handholding from anyone. If that’s what you’re looking for, you shouldn’t bother attending this school. Class sizes are small, so you get more attention from professors and your questions answered, which was a big plus for me. The campus felt lively and fun compared to FIT, and the degree is well-rounded. There are alumni working in all kinds of industries, not just fashion! The downsides? It’s expensive (but you’re in NYC, so that should be expected) but scholarships, grants, and State Aid are all at your disposal, if you qualify. Financial Services can be slow to respond, which is frustrating. That said, the website and school emails make it pretty easy to find what you need for things like registration or paying your bill. All in all, you have an opportunity to live out some of your best years, in New York City, which is the largest selling point, that few schools can offer you.

I do not recommend this school. It’s a waste of money and if you are out of state it’s an even bigger waste of money. All you get are loans and barely any funding. Also, you need 2-3 internships which are required and there’s not much help given to help you achieve those. I never heard of a school forcing students to take that many internships. Usually it is one internship and if you are working you can get credit from your job. Not here they will keep you from graduating if it means they can get that $6,000 from you. Another thing which really made me regret coming here is how inconsiderate some of the staff can be. I recently lost a parent and was told to contact the assistant Dean to get an extension on coursework. This individual called me at 6pm and started asking me personal questions. Then proceeds to ask me why I needed off from school if I wasn’t burying my parent that week. That was when I realized this school wasn’t my dream. I shouldn’t have went to a for profit school when I had amazing schools in my area where I would have had everything paid for.
