I have watched the tireless work the administrators and staff do for their students. They will go beyond the norm to help and assist if you let them. All you have to do is reach out and ask for help and the administration will get you to the right place for an assist. The Northern Kentucky community is fortunate to have this low cost institution as an anchor.

Not a great school at all. Barley anything is in perosn unless you want to go to like 3 different buildings. 99% of my professors didn’t know how to communicate with there students and there where points where I waited up to 3 weeks to just get an email back form them. Honestly this school is a joke. They claim they care about there students but they make it hard for them just to do classes and keep up with their work. I ended up dropping out because I was tired of it. Don’t regret my choice.

At this point it is basically an all online school, and not a good one. They use blackboard mainly, however each class has a different website for actual assignments and textbooks, this makes everything very confusing. It’s impossible to get ahold of ANYONE. You can schedule meetings with staff through Microsoft but it’s a toss up whether or not they will be late or even attend. It’s extra frustrating because I was coaxed so hard by the staff that helps with GEDs with one of the main things being that it’s so affordable, yet it was never told to me that I’m not even paying for college… so basically there is no reason for me to be here rather than an ACTUAL university. It seems a lot like every staff member here is just out to collect a salary with the most minimal amount of effort required while they work their real jobs.

Stay away from this school and do not do business with them if you value your time and money. They run this place like a business intended to scam students who are looking for a cheap education. You’re paying for a receipt, not an education. This is NOT an educational facility that values its pupils. They claim to prepare you for a 4 year college, they do not. It’s also important to know that Gateway community and technical College collects your personal information and sells it to other colleges, businesses, and telemarketers. Nearly every semester I had faculty who were unwilling to do the bare minimum of their job requirement. I have now been in a 2 1/2 month battle of trying to get a refund for a class that was not provided to me. The faculty here value money far more than they do the student and will do everything they can to deny you a refund or fair resolution. There are some quality faculty members with good intentions, but the vast majority of the faculty, especially the senior members, are rude, unfair, and lack compassion. They do not respond to emails and avoid contact at all costs. I know this school is tempting because of the cheaper cost, but save your time and money and look for alternatives. You’ll be thankful you did.

I have had a very difficult time with this school. The faculty and staff do not care about the students or their education. I had a teacher who refused to respond to any sort of email because it “hurts her eyes”. I have also been having a lot of trouble with Financial Aid. They don’t really care about the students and they do everything they can to not provide you with Financial Aid. I would definitely not recommend this school to anyone, even though it is affordable.

Tried to get signed up for classes....went through a third party vendor to get my transcript sent over. Got told repeatedly that I did it wrong even though I contacted the vendor themselves to ensure I didn't. When told that wasn't the case, that I did in fact do it correctly, I notified gateway and still to this day I haven't gotten a reply. Money for the transcript to be sent over is down the drain and I was so fed up that I decided to go to a different school. Let's not even get into their call center. I was ping ponged all over the place and no one wanted to help me. My advice, choose somewhere else...ive never had this terrible of customer service in my life.

Update: After discussing these issues with a representative and some cross communication my credits did finally transfer over 8 months after my original submission. Due to this I have raised my review from 2 to 3 stars. If I could some how go back in time and avoid going here I would. The only reason I am giving this place two stars is because of Professor Dee Wright. He was absolutely amazing. Other than him the whole place is a joke. Course work would not match up with course material. Blackboard homework would be broken and correct answers would show incorrect and vice versa. But what really drives the last nail into the coffin is that I was blatantly lied to. I was told all of my credits would carry over to the university I planned on attending. I went here for 1 semester and accrued 14 credits. 1 carried over. 1 credit for a full semester of my life. Absolute waste of my time. I put in 100% effort to pass with straight A's only to see other students getting handouts and having negative grades removed so that they could pass. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

I called to inquire about the Work Ready Scholarship in Kentucky, the woman who answered the phone was racist. She told me that only American citizens were able to apply for this scholarship. She assumed I was NOT an American citizen because of my accent. They need to train their personnel or hire different people who can work with all kinds of different nationalities and ethnicities.

Though Gateway is a lot cheaper than normal colleges keep in mind you get what you pay for. I have not been to NKU but it is coming in the near future. I am enrolled in the Computer and Information Technology department. If you are expecting hands on training, forget it, as Gateway has little to no equipment to actually work with. They utilize TestOut program to teach the class online. The Networking instructor refuses to cover anything from TestOut. That not his job. I will not take any more classes with him at all. TestOut gives very limited info for what you need for the exams they have. Basically you fail the exam, expand all questions and answers, print it, and retake the test and 100% and have successfully learned nothing at all. One extremely good instructor and one I have for online class I can not comment on as I haven't had him for in person class. So when it comes to CIT I would take Network based classes at NKY or anywhere other than Gateway. Oh, and don't waste your time with the President as he has little to no care about the students thoughts. Only care he has is getting money in the door. It is bs though that for $700 + books & software, an instructor can say its not his job and thats OK. Its not OK with me.

Professors barely respond back to you, if you are working a full time job and can only do school work on the weekends sometimes. Please find another college to go to. KENNETH FOGT is the biggest joke of a teacher and should not have a job! If I could give 0 stars I would.

Gateway has received some bad press lately with the drama pertaining to their former President, but this is still the absolute best school for your money. And with the partnership with NKU, easy as pie to transfer and get a leg up on a 4 year degree.

Communication is non existent when reaching out to faculty. it takes WEEKS to even hear back after emailing or calling and leaving voicemails. Save yourself the headache and go to NKU.
